CHOW KEUNG(周强) After graduation in HK and NY, Chow Keung worked for the Hong Kong Arts Centre and the Hong Kong Film Critics Society. Since 1998, Chow Keung has been working full time in filmmaking and has contributed greatly to Chinese language films. Up until now, Chow Keung has supervised and produced close to 30 movies, working together with outstanding directors from all over the world, such as Emily Tang, Jia Zhangke, Yu Lik-wai, Guan Hu, Han Jie, Wu Jianong, Diao Yinan, David Verbeek and Conrad Clark; his films have won numerous awards in Venice, Vancouver, Locarno, Rotterdam and Shanghai. "Still Life" (Sanxia haoren), directed by Jia Zhangke, produced by Chow Keung, won the Golden Lion, the greatest honor at the Venice International Film Festival 2006. "Still Life" has since been released in more than 60 countries around the world, and has helped to establish Chinese language art film overseas. In 2003, Chow Keung, Jia Zhangke and Yu Lik-wai founded the production company XStream Pictures with offices in Hong Kong and Beijing, devoting themselves to integrating domestic and international movie resources, as well as discovering and promoting young directors, in a next step forward to develop the production and distribution of Chinese language movies. |
