James Chau is a broadcaster and writer. He was a Guest Presenter on BBC World News, appearing on the award-winning business show, Horizons, and is currently a Special Contributor to CCTV News after ten years as its main anchor. He is active on social media, writing for the Huffington Post and has 1.7 million followers on Weibo, the Chinese version of Twitter. He has been profiled by the Financial Times, Sunday Times and Vanity Fair, and was named a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum in 2015.

He has interviewed many of the world’s leading personalities – amongst them Nobel Peace Prize winners Kofi Annan, Muhammad Yunus and Aung Sang Suu Kyi, as well as Winnie Mandela, Robert Mugabe, Elton John, Bob Geldof, Paul Kagame, Joko Widodo, Diane von Furstenberg, David Tang, Jimmy Choo, Annie Lennox and Chinese First Lady Peng Liyuan.

Most recently, he reported on the Syrian civil war, the Paris terrorist attacks, the COP21 climate talks, and the outbreaks of Zika and Ebola. Following the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370, he travelled to Kuala Lumpur and was the first international journalist to reveal the last words spoken by the missing pilots.

He studied piano at the Royal Academy of Music and graduated from Cambridge University, where the annual John C.B. Chau Prize in Engineering is named for his father. He lives in Beijing and London.
